Bintulu began as a small fishing village – now it’s a booming industrial town thanks to its offshore natural-gas fields. Situated between Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, Bintulu is a central gateway to many ecotourism and cultural attraction of East Malaysia.

Bintulu offers a number of activities to suit different travellers. Hike along the stunning natural trails at the Similajau National Park, or hop on a river cruise and explore this quaint coastal town from traditional long houses and if you’re lucky, you’ll see turtles on the shores of Golden Beach burying their eggs. If you’re planning to explore Bintulu between July to August, be sure to check out their annual International Borneo Kite Festival – a one week event showcasing kites of various shapes, designs and colours from around the world.
