Royal Brunei Airlines Celebrate Inaugural Flight to Sibu, Sarawak

Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) celebrated the launch of its inaugural flight to Sibu at Sibu Airport, Sarawak on 14th November 2019.

Present at the celebration was Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Sarawak; Yang Mulia Mohammad Kamaluddin, Consul, Consulate General of Brunei Darussalam in Kuching; Mr. Hii Chang Kee, Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Sarawak; Mr Zainuddin Mohamed, Senior Manager, Route Development Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad; Puan Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board; Ms Ai-Ling Ng, Royal Brunei’s Senior Vice President – Sales; Sarawak Tourism Board and Malaysia Association of Travels & Tours Agents Representatives. The celebration was hosted by Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad in partnership with Sarawak Tourism Board attended by guests and media.

“We are very proud to be the first international airline to fly to Sibu in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. We are delighted to introduce Sibu as our next destination in Phase one of the RB Link regional initiative connecting cities and towns within Borneo Island. Sibu and its neighbouring towns will benefit from our value pricing and five star full service product as well as seamless connections through Brunei to many international markets such as China, Japan, UK and Australia which offer great tourism and export opportunities. It’s another important and exciting step in our goal to make travel easier within Borneo and beyond.” said Ms Ai-ling Ng, RB’s Senior Vice President – Sales.

Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airports, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said, “We are pleased to welcome Royal Brunei Airlines to Sibu Airport, its fourth new destination in Malaysia after Sandakan, Bintulu and Tawau in recent weeks. In the last nine months, Sibu Airport recorded a 12.7% increase in passenger movement compared to the same period last year. We are confident that this new international route will benefit Sibu by boosting its tourism offerings to potential visitors.”

Puan Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, Chief Executive Officer at Sarawak Tourism Board said: “With the connectivity provided by Royal Brunei, Sibu can now look forward to be accessible to the world through another important hub, Bandar Seri Begawan. Not only it serves as a link for local business community to the outside world but facilitating the growth of tourism into the Sibu and the central region.”

“The connection augurs well for central region as the Sarawak Tourism Board is currently pursuing an aggressive promotion campaign which we have recently launched in Europe and we are expecting tourist movement early next year,” added Puan Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor.

 

RB Link flights provide guests with a full-service experience, including a light snack and drink service (for flights over one hour), and Checked baggage allowance of 15kg or, for connecting guests, weight in-line with international fare rules (starting from 30kg in Economy class). The aircraft can accommodate 72 all economy class seats with 4 preferred seats on a 43-inch seat pitch and 6 preferred seats with 33-inch seat pitch. Guests on board will enjoy RB’s signature service, Muhibah in-flight magazine, and are able to use their personal electronic devices for entertainment.

 

The first flight arrived at Sibu Airport at 14:40hrs and was welcomed with a water canon salute. The Six times weekly flight to Sibu as per below schedule.
