Sports Equipment
Starting 1 December 2025, sporting equipment can be included as part of your free baggage allowance based on your class of travel. Royal Skies members are entitled to an additional 12 kg sporting equipment waiver per guest, no matter how many sporting items are checked in.
This waiver applies exclusively to Royal Skies members and is valid only on Royal Brunei (BI) operated flights. It cannot be combined with other waivers; if more than one waiver could apply, only the highest applicable waiver will be used.
Eligible Sporting Equipment
The following sporting items are included in your free baggage allowance and qualify for the 12 kg Royal Skies sporting equipment waiver:

Golf Equipment – One golf bag, golf clubs, and one pair of golf shoes

Bicycle – One suitably packed non-motorized bicycle

Surfboard – One surfboard and related surfing gear (excluding windsurfing or sailboards)

Snow or Water Ski Equipment

Packing & Safety Requirements
All sporting equipment must be properly packed to prevent damage and must not exceed 158 cm (62 inches) in total dimensions. Equipment will be checked and accepted by our airport staff to ensure it meets safety and packaging guidelines.

Bicycles – Must be packed with handlebars aligned to the frame. Pedals, lamps, mirrors, and stands must be removed. Tyres must be deflated.

Sailboards (Windsurfing) – Due to their size, sailboards cannot be accepted as checked baggage and can only be shipped as manifested cargo.

Diving Equipment – A valid diving license must be presented. All diving gear and knives must be packed in checked baggage. Spear guns must be unloaded, with spears packed separately. Compressed air tanks are accepted only if empty with the valve fully open. Flares are classified as dangerous goods and cannot be carried.

Additional Screening – Sporting equipment may undergo extra screening to confirm it contains only sporting items.
Dangerous Goods Restrictions
Dangerous Goods (DG) are strictly prohibited under this sporting equipment allowance. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Pressurised gas cylinders (e.g., diving tanks, CO₂ cartridges)
- Flammable materials such as fuels, oils, or solvents
- Explosives, ammunition, or fireworks
- Self-heating items or corrosive substances
- Lithium batteries that do not comply with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations
Guests are responsible for ensuring none of these items are included in their equipment. If you require additional allowance, you may Pre-Purchase Extra Baggage Allowance.
Urns
Guests may carry with them urns as hand baggage. The guest must ensure that it is packed in a suitable manner and adequately protected against breakage by cushioning packaging. The package must be stored in the overhead compartment.
The following documents will be required, depending on the departure or arrival station authority:
- Death certificate
- Certificate of cremation
- Authorization certificate from Health Department of Ministry of Health, Brunei. Applicable for guests departing from Brunei (BWN) only.
Diplomatic Mail
At the Brunei International Airport, Foreign diplomats and their staff members, and members of certain international organisations, e.g. United Nations, may carry sealed diplomatic bag in the passenger cabin without examination of contents, provided the station staff members are satisfied with authenticity of their seals and the couriers credentials. Captain in-command is informed of the carriage. However, some other states may require them to be screened.
Zam Zam Holy Water
All guests returning from Hajj are allowed additional complimentary free baggage allowance of 5 litres of the Zamzam Holy Water, provided that it is properly and safely wrapped in a plastic covering to avoid leakage and damage to other baggage. This complimentary allowance applies to all passengers travelling on Royal Brunei Airlines (RB), including inbound passengers from other carriers connecting to RB flights.
Guest returning from Umrah are allowed complimentary free baggage allowance of 5 litres of Zam Zam Holy Water, provided that:
- Zam Zam Holy Water is purchased from Jeddah Airport.
- Umrah guest holding Umrah visa.
- GCC resident holding a tourist visa intending to perform Umrah.
- Guest arriving from any country holding a tourist visa intending to perform Umrah.
- Guest holding transit visas.
- Guest holding any type of visa intending to perform Umrah.
